I have to reread this and look into it more. But this is me. I get thrown off very easily and the amount of noises that can happen shopping in a supermarket or Walmart can leave me stressed out. Walmart has actually created brief periods where there's no music for autistic people on some days of the week. Something like 8:00 till 10:00 a.m. for a day or two a week. At least it's something. The kind of noise and interruption that is problematic can be tied into my startle reflex. I just live with it. Avoiding noise easily at home when I can control it. But not when I'm in public and I cannot control it. I've been ridiculed for calling for no lawn equipment to be used most of Sunday --- perhaps past after 12:00 noon or something. Noise pollution is a real thing. Whether you're sensitive or not.

A subject that ties into some of this and maybe takes it on is the subject of HSPs: Highly Sensitive People. I listen to an audiobook from Amazon with the same title give or take. I don't have the author's name handy but I could check if somebody wanted. It was helpful. Some of us just don't filter out enough of the noise and distraction out there. And besides auditory issues, our bodies may just be overly sensitive in many different ways: to noise, light, pollution, harsh chemicals out there and more.

Finally, yes the amygdala is a part of our brain tied into fear, and some of us can be triggered easier than others I would think.

The sound balance in TV programmes & films is wrong - the dialogue is too quiet for the volume of the music throughout.. Is it just me or does anyone else find they’re constantly turning it either up or down, 10-20 times an episode?

Yes!!! Ok it’s good to know that I’m not crazy. I just don’t understand why the music and background noises have to be so loud, unnecessary, and off key.
